Eitaku-ji Soba Dojo/Iris Garden
Eitaku-ji Iris Garden is known as a genuine circuit-style Japanese garden. 3 million iris flowers in 650 of the best varieties chosen from around the nation flower during the prime viewing season in the 33,000 square meter grounds. At the adjoining Soba Dojo, you can experience soba making using the highest quality stone ground buckwheat flour. Eating freshly boiled soba that you have kneaded yourself is especially delicious.
Known as a renowned location for flowers, the flower blooming period of the peony here in late April to mid-May during the prime viewing time is said to be the latest in Kansai due to the location having an elevation of 550 meters above sea-level, along with the winter peony that blooms intensely in the deep cold (late December to late February) and the white skunk cabbage (late March to late April).
In the vicinity there is also the Soto school temple Yotaku-ji that was opened by the Tsugen Zen Master in 1370 (Keiō 3), which holds Zen meditation training with lodging.
