- Shintaro Sasabe inherited this forest, used to research grafting and to preserve cherry blossom varieties, from his older brother in 1912. At that time, there were 30 varieties and 5,000 trees; currently 1,000 trees, primarily of the Japanese cherry variety, remain.
In 1999, it opened as a nature park, with easy hiking courses that helped the park gain popularity. There's the Sanso Meguri Route (approx. 1.1 km) that follows the maple and cherry blossom paths, the Shirogaoka Shukai Route (approx. 0.4 km) that goes to Sasabe's "rock garden" lab, the Minamione Shukai Route (approx. 2.2 km) that features wonderful views from the Tsutsujigaoka outlook point, the Ominesando Route (approx. 0.2 km) that goes from the tree-planting hill to Mt. Omine, and the Takimi-no-Michi Route (approx. 0.5 km) that goes to Mangetsu fall.
