Itami Specialty Koboreume
It is said that “koboreume” refers to the lees of mirin (sweet sake) and that its name comes from its resemblance to the white plum blossoms that spill over. Produced mainly in Itami during the late Edo Period (1603-1868), when refined sake brewing flourished, it was popular as a simple confection. It also made an appearance in “Sagitori,” a Kamigata rakugo story. (Kamigata rakugo is traditional Japanese story-telling practiced in the Kansai region.) It was a favorite of the late rakugo storyteller Shijaku Katsura, who was born in Itami.
It is characterized by a mild sake aroma and a subtle sweetness. Enjoy it straight out of the bag as a snack. You can also dissolve it in hot water and enjoy it as amazake.(winter only)
