Koshihikari, Hinohikari, Dontokoi and Yamada Nishiki, rice varieties grown and shipped from Sanda, are called “Sanda Rice” and are loved by many people. Among them, Dontokoi is affectionately known as “Sankirari” and is one of the Sanda Rice used in school lunches in the city. In recent years, environmentally-friendly rice, which requires less use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, and “Sanda Aigamo Koshihikari,” which takes advantage of the vigorous eating habits of ducks (aigamo) to weed the rice fields, have been cultivated, and rice production is being actively promoted with consideration for the natural environment and human health.
