Itami City Museum of Insects
Located next to the lush Koyaike Pond, the Itami City Museum of Insects was opened in commemoration of the city's 50th anniversary. Approximately 1,000 butterflies from 14 species, including one of Japan's largest, the paper kite, flit about inside a popular dome-shaped greenhouse year-round. Models and large-screen videos in exhibition rooms offer opportunities to observe insect ecology, with other periodic special exhibits available, too. The Study Room houses living honeybee specimens, a book corner, and even an activity corner for young children to enjoy origami, coloring books, and more.
