Itami City Gochokan (former Okada Residence & Sake Cellar, former Ishibashi Residence, and Shinmachi-ya)

: These spots are located in the Miyanomae Culture Town along with Kakimura Bunko, the City Art Museum, and the City Craft Center. They were constructed to serve as a headquarters for sharing with the world the past of the historic and culturally significant Itami village: its castle-town location at the base of the impregnable Arioka Castle, its former role as a thriving Edo-period sake-brewing town, and the haikai poetry and other literary traditions that followed.
The former Okada Residence & Sake Cellar, an Important Cultural Property, is a machiya (townhouse) dating to the early Edo period that houses Japan's oldest recorded surviving sake cellar. There's also the former Ishibashi Residence, a Designated Prefectural Cultural Property that dates to the late Edo period, and the machiya-style Shinmachi-ya, also from the Edo period.
At the former Okada and Ishibashi Residences, furniture, tools, videos, and other aids give visitors an understanding of Itami's sake-making and merchant lifestyles. The Ishibashi Residence displays and sells local jewelry and crafts in the craft shop; Shinmachi-ya has glass crafts exhibits and a multipurpose workshop.
This facility is under construction,so it is closed from September 2020 to the end of March 2022.
