Takedao Abandoned Railroad
This is a hiking course, taking approximately two hours, that begins at Namaze Station on the JR Fukuchiyama Line (Takarazuka Line). Following along the Mukogawa River ravine, the path is level and an easy walk - just make sure to watch your step, as many old pieces of track and railroad ties remain. There are about six tunnels along the trail, measuring up to 400 meters in length, so be sure to bring a flashlight or other equipment to help you see in the darkness. Along the path is Ekiraku Sanso, a forest initially used for research by Shintaro Sasabe, who established it in 1912 to preserve sakura (cherry blossom) tree varieties and conduct grafting and other research. Now, springtime visitors are greeted by yamazakura (Japanese cherry) trees, while autumn hikers can relish the beautiful colors of the Japanese maples.
