/ Kitsugidayu Stele Monument
Kitsugidayu Stele Monument
This is a stele (monument) to Sakanoue no Zendayu, who worked to actively develop and apply tree grafting techniques. Located just 100 meters west of Hankyu Yamamoto Station, this is an important symbol in the history of planting and landscaping. The epitaph is inscribed with the words "Kitsugidayu", a title bestowed on him by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and certifies the establishment of Yamamoto as a horticultural promotion area.
Based on recent investigations, it is a keyhole shaped grave from the early 6th century that has the oldest horizontal stone chamber in the northern Kinki area and is thought to have belonged to a prominent regional clan that held a significant amount of power.
