/ Junrei Kaido Pilgrimage Route
Junrei Kaido Pilgrimage Route
This is a route of Kannon holy places, said to have been established by Emperor Kazan during the Heian period. It follows the Saigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage from Katsuo-dera Temple in Mino (#23) through Nakayama-dera Temple in Takarazuka (#24) to the temple town of Kiyomizu-dera (#25). The route was able to retain vestiges of its history throughout the Edo period, when the route became increasingly popular among ordinary citizens due to rising religious enthusiasm, and the olden atmosphere remains today.
