Takarazuka Nagatani Peony Garden
Takarazuka, a city known as one of Japan's three famous locations for landscaping, has a long history with peonies; they are said to have been brought from Shimane Prefecture approximately 300 years ago for both medicinal and aesthetic reasons. Approximately 250 plants representing 50 different varieties were even sent for display at the Paris World's Fair. Around 1,400 of these historic plants from around Japan, along with 600 more grown here in Takarazuka, went on display when the garden opened in 2001.
*Please inquire about the peony season before traveling, as the garden's season of operation varies based on the peonies.
